BIOGRAPHY

Merelyn Carter is a vivacious performer and presenter, a story teller who has a heart for women.

Born a farmer’s daughter in South Australia, Merelyn started her working life in Real Estate at the age of 16, followed by the CSIRO, being one of two women on a staff of 60 male scientists.  Merelyn then became a mother and worked volunteer for several years at an Emergency Accommodation Program for Homeless Teenagers.

Divorced and a single mum at a young age with two young children, Merelyn was determined to support herself and her girls and worked seven jobs at one time, everything from shopping surveys, ironing, working in a school office to delivering pamphlets.  At 26 she decided to become a professional musician and entertainer and for 15 years her career has blossomed.

Now half of the extremely successful country music original act Carter & Carter, Merelyn together with husband David have had six national #1 country music hits, have won the coveted Golden Guitar for Vocal Group/Duo of the Year in 2002 and the APRA Award in 2004 for Most Performed Country Work.  Carter & Carter were named CMAA Independent Artists of the Year for 3 years running, 2002, 2003 & 2004.  As independent entertainers, they have created history several times over with their achievements in country music in Australia.

Small sojourns into acting, performing arts and radio have added to the variety of Merelyn’s experiences, together with her part in a successful children’s live stage show ‘Jump 2 It!’

Merelyn has toured Australia and overseas, she has lived through hard times financially and personally and has overcome family and professional rejection to emerge a strong independent woman with a compassionate heart for women, and an encouraging and inspiring story to touch women everywhere, to help them find their own place in the world and to bring out their highest potential.
