CARTER &
CARTER Bio 2008
Since their introduction into Country Music in 2000 Carter & Carter continue to make Australian music history and throughout their reasonably short yet highly successful career so far, it is not unusual for Carter & Carter to do something that stands them ‘ahead of the rest’.
After winning double
TSA Song Salute Awards in Tamworth in January, and Merelyn winning both the Victorian and National Female Vocalist of the Year at the Victorian & National Country Music Awards held in Whittlesea in February, and following two national number one radio hits on the Top 30 Country Music Charts in 2007 (Runaway and
The Best Things in Life Are Free), April 2008 sees Carter & Carter release
Slow Dancing at Midnight from their current album
Leap Before You Look. A music Clip for
Slow Dancing at Midnight directed by Duncan Toombs will hit CMC in May.
And together with the release of the much anticipated single, comes the announcement that Carter & Carter’s first DVD simply titled
Carter & Carter – Unchained
will be launched mid year.
Directed by Duncan Toombs
Carter & Carter – Unchained is more than your average music DVD. It will contain all their music clips so far, plus a preview which will be released officially later in the year. It will contain live footage of Carter & Carter winning their Golden Guitar, together with excerpts from their live album launches in Tamworth. It will contain candid interviews with producers Herman Kovac and Adrian Hannan, not to mention interviews with Carter & Carter family, friends and fans alike.
Exploring what it is like to be an Independent artist in Australian Country Music,
Carter & Carter – Unchained is based around a live Lounge Room Concert held at David and Merelyn’s home in Kinglake, Victoria. With a tour around their small farm and exploring some of the things close to their hearts,
Carter & Carter – Unchained is sure to be great entertainment as well as a candid look into the lives of two people who write songs about life itself.
And it’s these two people and these songs that continue to win the hearts of fans all around the world and continue to help Carter & Carter create Australian musical history.
In October 2007, Carter & Carter took home three prestigious awards from the 11th Australian Independent Country Music Awards
- Group /Duo of the Year for their hit ‘Run Away’
- Album of the Year for their new album ‘Leap Before you Look’
- and the overall award for Artist of the Year.
This brings their total wins at the Australian Independent Country Music Awards to ten – more than any other independent country music artist in Australia.
With four albums now to their career credit, eight #1 country music hits, multi award winning albums and songs, together with their induction into the Hands of Fame in Tamworth in 2006, Carter & Carter continue to build their musical careers. Both David and Merelyn tutor and mentor up and coming new artists, both have put their hand to producing other artists and music clips, including Donna Boyd and Debra Byrnes.
Major awards include a
2003 Golden Guitar for 'Candlelight and Kisses',
2004 APRA Most Performed Country Work Award for 'Lead Me Home', the
CMAA Industry Achiever Award for Independent Entertainer of the Year for three consecutive years, not to mention their 10
Australian Independent Country Music Awards, multiple
TSA Songwriting,
ACMLA People’s Choice and
Victorian Country Music Awards
and also accolades across other genres.
To date they have
eight national #1 country music hits, on both the Country Tracks Top 30 chart and Music Network charts as well as six other Top 10 hits, certainly an impressive chart history. They have also charted in other genres of music both here in Australia and overseas.
Passionate songwriters as well as performers they have written many of their hits including
Lead Me Home, Candlelight and Kisses, Dance Away The Night, One of Those Days
and God Didn’t Make Mistakes, Runaway and The Best Things in Life are Free
to name a few.
Having done all of this as independent, self managed artists, it is not surprising that Carter & Carter are now considered by fans and peers alike to be amongst the history making artists in Australian Country Music.
Their music is fresh, it's inspiring, and it will continue to create history for many years to come and stand them ‘ahead of the rest’.
