On Monday night at the 2004 APRA Music
Awards Carter & Carter became the first independent country performers to
take out the APRA Award for the Most Performed Country Work.
It was up against an incredibly strong
field made up of Lee Kernaghan, Troy Cassar-Daley, Paul Kelly and Sara Storer.
"The
APRA Awards are very special for us as they reward the acheivements
of the songwriters, not just the artists. Lead me Home
was one of those songs that took a lot of years to complete.
Seven in fact, so to have it not only become a number one hit, but
also take out awards including the 2003 APRA/AMCOS Independent
Country Music Single of the Year last year at Mildura, the Gospel
category in the 2003 Music Oz Awards, and now to pick up
the APRA Most Performed Country Work overall, it is just amazing.
To top it off, it is a very special song to both David and myself.
It is a song about hope and about moving out of a dark place in your
life into a much better place, and to have others relate to it
in this way is truly a blessing to us both." Merelyn
"Merelyn
and I would like to say a big thankyou to CMC (Country Music
Channel), Good Morning Australia, radio presenters and programmers, the
media and all the people who have helped us receive such a fantastic
award, and to our producer Herm Kovac and the musicians for
helping us record this special song. Thanks to to APRA for an incredible
night and for all they do to support songwriters." David
