Being on the road a lot, singing our songs, gives us the wonderful opportunity  to meet many people and hear stories of their lives.  Earlier this year we met a lady  in Queensland, who shared her story with us which inspired this song. 

As a little girl she grew up in a family with not much money. Every week she would do chores for her pocket money and save up enough
to buy a postage stamp every second week.  With this stamp she would write to her local radio station presenter and request her favourite song. Then for the next two weeks, until she could afford another stamp, she sat with her family each night and listened intently to the radio to see if they would play her request.

More often than not they would hear the requested song and it brought them all lots of smiles and laughter, and many happy memories over the years.

Now that little girl is an older lady who has everything she needs, a loving family of her own, a big house, two cars, a swimming pool and money enough to buy all the stamps she needs. But she's never forgotten the songs that helped her through the earlier years of her life and now she wants to give something back, so every time she sees a new artist she buys their albums.  She bought both of ours.

We thought this was such a lovely story, and we were reminded of the profound impact a song can have on people and how special it is when a song is requested. We were reminded too of how important the radio presenter is to their  listener and the happiness they can bring by granting the song request.

And we were also reminded of the reason we write and sing songs - to touch peoples hearts.
