A VERY SUCCESSFUL TAMWORTH FESTIVAL FOR CARTER & CARTER
Carter & Carter launched their new album ‘Leap Before You Look’ before 1600+ people at the Toyota Country Theatre at the TREC in Tamworth on January 25th 2007.
Together with Donna Boyd who also launched her new album ‘Luckiest Girl Alive’ David and Merelyn were totally thrilled and overwhelmed by the response of fans from all around Australia as they gathered for the launch at the Tamworth Country Music Festival.
Adrian Hannan and David Carter produced both Donna’s and Carter & Carter’s albums,
and Merelyn also co-produced ‘Leap Before You Look’.
‘We are very proud of our new album, we have taken over a year to put it together, we have written and co-written all 12 songs and gathered musicians from all around to play with us. We were so happy that all those people turned out to join us in celebrating the release of these 24 original songs, 12 from Donna and 12 from us. There is a lot of heart ache, joy, frustration, excitement, experience and story telling that goes into writing songs and making a record. The thing we all want most as songwriters and artists is that our music connects with people, so when so many turn up to hear your new songs it is such a blessing to us.’ Merelyn & David
The launch was a free to public show as a gift to the fans of Donna Boyd and Carter & Carter. On the day people were asked to consider a donation to Child Flight and an enormous $1800+ was raised for this very worthy cause.
Merelyn, David and Donna wish to thank everyone involved, especially all the media who helped advertise the event, the friends and family who helped on the day, and a big thanks to Barry Harley at Rural Press for helping to make this happen.
The TIARA for Country Duo of the Year was awarded to Carter & Carter at the TIARA Awards afternoon held at Blazes Auditorium, West Leagues Club in Tamworth
Carter & Carter were also awarded The Australian Country Music People’s Choice Career Achievement Award for ‘remarkable achievements over a relatively short period of time, clearly etching your place in today’s country music and a reputation as one of the nation’s most successful country duos’
‘What a surprise these two awards were. We obviously knew we had a nomination in this years TIARA Awards with our song Ride and it was so great to win that category, but we had no idea about the award given to us as a career recognition from the People’s Choice Awards. We feel very humbled to be honoured in this wonderful way and we thank everyone involved’
Carter & Carter’s new single Run Away is gaining very strong airplay all across the nation and looks set to be another chart topper.
Capital News Reviewer Debra Minter describes the new album:
leap before you look
CARTER & CARTER Crestway Music
Just when you think they couldn’t possibly get better, CARTER & CARTER have come up with a dazzling fourth album Leap Before You Look. Their last album, Acoustic Gospel, was like taking a breather before the ‘leap’ into this stunning CD, produced, in the main by themselves and Adrian Hannan. It has taken some time to complete this project, with first single Play That Song released in late 2005 and follow up 2006 single Ride taking the duo all the way to the Golden Guitars in 2007. They have just released their third single Run Away to coincide with the Tamworth release of the album. The CD is chock full of classic Carter & Carter songs; brilliant uplifting songs from Merelyn, sprinkled with some tongue-in-cheek songs from David. Whatever the magic is, Carter & Carter have IT; along with the ability to create music that touches each and every one of their fans – including me.

‘It is always terrific to win any award and winning in the inaugural 2006 ICE AWARDS is so very exciting. We want to sincerely thank Deb Minter for all her ongoing hard work in producing ICE NEWS every month and keeping Australia and the world informed on what is happening in the Independent Country Music Scene here in Australia. Thanks Deb, and keep up the great work, we all appreciate it so very much’ Merelyn and David
This is what Deb has to say about the new ICE AWARDS and how they are determined.
‘The judges come from a wide range of genres including rock, jazz, theatre, classical and operatic and include working (and retired) professional musicians, extensively qualified music teachers, radio personalities and audio engineers. All have worked for a minimum of 20 years in their professions and all wish to remain completely anonymous to ensure they cannot be influenced by future contact if the awards continue. None have any preconceived notions of reputation, charting success or experience of the artists they judged.
I gave the judges no advice in any way. They were not even supplied with the CD liners from the compilation CDs. They simply used their extensive knowledge to choose the highest vocal quality, purity of pitch, clarity of enunciation and song performance, taking into account the difficulty of material. The backing WAS judged, but only as to the suitability of the music to the melody and lyrics.
These awards in no way attempt to denigrate or undermine the extreme importance of existing awards which will always remain the paramount acknowledgement of Australian Country Music. After all, there is more to an artist than just the music - there is the dedication, the hard work and the live performance - all of which shape a 'star'. The ICE awards just celebrate the song itself.’
